A visit to the dentist is not on your priority list? Or simply too busy to visit the dentist? Take a look at these 10 budget friendly ways to keep your dental health in check.
1) Increase water intake: Water not only cleanses the mouth but also improves salivation which is the mouth’s natural mouthwash.
2) Taste some cheese: Munch on just a bit of cheese after dinner which can neutralize the acids in the oral cavity.
3) Chew sugar free gum: Sugar free gum enhances saliva production as well which cleanses the mouth and keeps the mouth relatively free of plaque acid.
4) Do not brush immediately after acidic drinks: Do not brush your teeth immediately after consumption of fizzy drinks or citrus juices as that wears out the enamel. Wait for about 20 minutes before brushing.
5) Rinse with hydrogen peroxide: Rinse with a small amount of hydrogen peroxide in water which acts as a good anti-microbial agent as well as whitening agent.
6) Use a mouthwash: Use an anti-bacterial mouthwash to keep bad breath at bay.
7) Use a straw: Although, it might feel awkward, use a straw to drink coffee, tea, red wine and other staining fluids. This prevents the direct contact of the staining agent with the teeth and help preserve your pearly whites.
Soften your toothbrush with hot water: If you have sensitive teeth, soften the bristles of the toothbrush with hot water.
9) Avoid sugar and starches: Keep the sugar and sweets intake to a minimum as it feeds the bacteria producing organic acids which can harm your teeth.
10) Brush and floss: Don’t skip the basics. Not just brushing regularly is important but brushing correctly as well.
